uaetodaynews.com — Out-of-favour Liverpool goalkeeper called up to Champions League squad – Liverpool FC

With Alisson not expected back until after the November international break, Liverpool have called up Kornel Misciur to fill in for him in the Champions League squad.

Liverpool named a 22-man squad for their trip to Eintracht Frankfurt, with Alisson a notable absentee as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

The Brazilian is not due to return until after the next international break, leaving Giorgi Mamardashvili to fill in against both Chelsea and Man United so far.

Mamardashvili will remain first choice and his promotion has seen Freddie Woodman take a place on the bench.

But with three goalkeepers typically required on matchdays due to the risk of late injury, Misciur has also travelled to Frankfurt.

Alongside fellow academy goalkeeper Bailey Hall, he is a List B player and able to be called upon for any of Liverpool’s Champions League matches.

Despite Hall being favoured this season over Misciur, it is the latter who will be with the first team, as Hall instead features for the under-19s in the UEFA Youth League.

Signed from Hull in 2023, Misciur has proved himself an outstanding shot-stopper and has been a standout among the academy goalkeepers in recent years.

At 16 years old, was a regular presence around Jurgen Klopp‘s squad in the 2023/24 season, but now, at 18 years old, he has been usurped at under-21 level by Hall this campaign.

Misciur has played zero games for Rob Page’s under-21s this season and has featured just three times for the under-18s since the summer.

Liverpool’s travelling squad vs. Eintracht Frankfurt

Goalkeepers: Mamardashvili, Woodman, Misciur

Defenders: Van Dijk, Conate, Bradley, Roazhson, Frimpong.

Midfielders: Szoboszlai, Wirtz, MacAllister, Jones, Endo

Forwards: Salah, Isaac, a gas, iron, Chiesa, ngumohaha,

It is believed Armin Pecsi could have been called up despite taking a spot on List A, thanks to UEFA rules stipulating that in the event of long-term injury or illness – defined as at least 30 days as of the day it occurred – any goalkeeper can be temporarily replaced.

This option has not been pursued, however. Fabian Mrozek, the 22-year-old Pole, could have been another option.
