How MAGA Hair Is Sweeping Through The Political Landscape After Donald Trumps Leading Ladies Embraced The Look
In 2025, as President Donald Trump was elected for his second term, it seemed like a new aesthetic trend was voted into fashion too.
‘Mar-a-Lago face’ – defined by an appearance of copious Botox usage, a Miami-bronze tan, puffy lips and silky smooth skin – became an instant hit with many members of his staff and cabinet, including with Kristi Noem and Caroline Leavitt.
But now, one year later, it seems like a new beauty phenomenon is set to take its place.

‘MAGA hair’ – the long, thick, flowing locks that many of Trump’s leading ladies have been sporting – appears to be the new must-have look down in Washington, D.C.
It means short hair is now a no-go and long hair is in vogue.
Since stepping into the spotlight, many women working under Trump have opted to wear their waist-length hair in loose, beach-y waves without a ponytail in sight.
Not only has Noem been spotted in recent months wearing the style, but so have Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle, TV commentator Tomi Lahren, and even Trump’s own daughter, Tiffany Trump.

And according hairdressers, don’t expect to see any short bobs in The White House anytime soon.
Long, thick hairstyles are here to stay in Trump World, as one expert pointed out that it ‘works alongside a very curated overall aesthetic.’

Pro hair stylist Jeremy Pugh, who commented from strictly a beauty and style standpoint, told Daily Mail that the hairstyle reminds him of some throwback ‘dos from the 2000s.
‘MAGA hair reminds me of the 2000s Victoria’s Secret blowout mixed with the viral Utah curls from Secret Lives of Mormon Wives with LOTS of extensions,’ Pugh told Daily Mail.

‘I think they’re going for a “youthful” look but it gets confusing for me with too much teasing, DRY ends and zero movement.’
Hair stylist Rachael Sprigg, founder of Hair by Rach, told Daily Mail that she believes the hairstyle is meant to make the women look ‘aspirational’ and ready to be on-camera.
‘It usually features long lengths, lots of volume, soft waves, and a glossy finish. It’s designed to look strong, aspirational, and camera-ready,’ Sprigg said.
‘In Washington, D.C., where image and perception matter hugely, this kind of hair projects confidence, wealth, and traditional femininity, all of which align with the branding many of these women want to communicate.’

Sprigg added that the hair is ‘rarely effortless’ looking.
‘The hair is rarely effortless or natural-looking. It’s styled to be noticed, symmetrical and polished, which mirrors the wider visual messaging of the look,’ Sprigg said.

The hairstylist also suspects that some of the ladies may be using hair extensions to supplement volume.
‘Achieving that level of length, density and uniform fullness, especially around the front and through the ends, is extremely difficult with natural hair alone,’ Sprigg shared.
‘Extensions allow for consistent thickness, bigger waves and a longer-lasting style that holds its shape on camera,’ she added.

Keeping hair that length and having healthy extensions is no small feat, either.
Sprigg told Daily Mail just how much time and effort go into it all – not to mention the sheer cost of the upkeep.
‘There is significant maintenance involved. Extensions require regular salon appointments for refitting and blending, specialist products, careful brushing and heat styling, and disciplined aftercare to avoid damage,’ Sprigg said.
‘Long hair at that level also needs frequent trims, deep conditioning treatments, and professional styling,’ she continued.

The trend of ‘MAGA hair’ comes just weeks after Marjorie Taylor Greene slammed the ‘MAGA makeover.’
In a wide-ranging interview published in The New York Times, the Republican Georgia congresswoman, 51, unleashed a scathing critique of what she dubbed the ‘MAGA Mar-a-Lago sexualization.’
‘I believe how women in leadership present themselves sends a message to younger women,’ Greene, 51, said during the interview.

‘I have two daughters, and I’ve always been uncomfortable with how those women puff up their lips and enlarge their breasts,’ she added of the cosmetic procedures some politicians have received in recent years.
‘I’ve never spoken about it publicly, but I’ve been planning to.’
Her outspoken statement was part of two years of conversations the lawmaker had with the Times, and comes after she has denied having any plastic surgery herself.
